This is the second of a two part series of time lapse videos showing the making of our full size portrait of Hershey’s chocolate founder, Milton Hershey. This sculpture was created for Hershey’s Chocolate World in Hershey, PA as part of their Chocolate Covered February event. The first phase, the making of the armature was recorded in Part 1 of the series and shows the necessary steps in creating the large size structure. The chocolate stage took Jim and Marie 10 days to complete. What you will see in the video is the application of the melted chocolate and the carving and shaping of the portrait’s details. What you cannot see, however, is the process of breaking down the chocolate and melting and tempering which is also a very vital part of working with the very delicate chocolate material.

So interesting to watch! Question….what is the thickness of the chocolate layer when finished and what was sprayed on at the end? Thanks again

Is that a necklace adorning your lampshade?? cool video, I had no idea how much work was involved. surprised me how many mediums you worked in. No wonder you come to beading group, to relax. Hope Dr. Oz show went well. I can’t imagine the segment topic; maybe ‘Butter sculpt your way to softer skin’ or ‘Don’t just eat your chocolate, model it’?? I have no idea. Have fun.

Hi Catherine, Thanks for watching our video. Yes, those are beads on my lampshade (LOL). I like to keep them out to look at them! And yes, beading is my escape and very relaxing especially when I’m with you and your group. Hope to see you soon. I don’t want to spoil the topic of the Oz show, but very interesting…I’ll be sure to share the date.
      Best,
      Marie

Wow, what a piece of artwork! I can’t imagine seeing it faster, this was fast,
I am learning beading with Catherine in Mount Laurel. She speaks very highly of you, I can understand why. You are fabulous artists. I’m so fortunate that Catherine shared this.

    Keep on creating,
    Cindy

      Hi Cindy,
Thanks for your comments. Next time I make a time lapse video, I will be sure to break the sequence with some real time footage with an explanation of what we are doing. I think that’ll add to the experience of watching us work.
      Best,
      Marie
